La Casa Dei Bambini (LCDB) is a children's playgroup which follows the Montessori Method of early learning. Run entirely by parent volunteers, our playgroup takes Montessori principals seriously while creating a fun and safe environment for our children. The aim of our playgroup is to use the Montessori Method to instill in your child a sense of discovery and awareness so that they develop a love of learning and can grow physically and mentally in a fun and playful environment.

The Montessori Method is a total approach to living and learning based on principals established by an Italian doctor early in the 20th Century. Maria Montessori emphasized many radical ideas, among which visitors to LCDB might notice:

1. The setting of clear processes to designate the start of an activity: Activities are set around key themes, and whilst activities may look just like unusual toys to you, Montessori parents call them 'jobs'.
2. As 'Directors', parents demonstrate how jobs are done: The Montessori method is high on visual learning. As a Montessori parent, we demonstrate how best the job is performed. Your child waits until you are finished demonstrating - usually with his or her hands on their laps or on their tables. Yes this really can be done!
3. We try never to interrupt a child when they're exploring a job: Our children learn by exploring. This means we keep chatter to a minimum whilst a child is actively working on any job. This does not mean that they do what they like. They explore the job until they are finished with it. Then they take it back to the shelves and store it away neatly.
